Innovatix Technology Partners, a Macrosoft, Inc. company conducted the third industry best practices of VFP – Survey in the month of March 2023 using Survey Monkey with 20 multiple choice questions. We received responses from 150 individuals from more than 100 identified companies.

Download NowThe survey provides several key insights that are worth summarizing. Firstly, 46% of respondents indicate that their Visual FoxPro applications are used in-house by employees. Secondly, 44% of respondents reported that their application has been in continual operations for 11-20 years, indicating that they are long-standing solutions that have been providing value for a considerable time. Thirdly, most applications are mid-tier, with 100,001 to 250,000 lines of code. Despite their relatively small size, these applications are complex, with 54% having 26-50 screens.
Another important insight is that 49% of respondents report having multiple versions of their application with different functionality, which can make migration and modernization efforts more complex. On a positive note, most systems are up-to-date, with 93% having had updates within the past year.
System security is identified as the number one risk, highlighting the potential vulnerabilities that legacy VFP applications may face. Finally, 46% of respondents indicate that the ideal target platform for their application is WPF / C#.Net (Microsoft.Net Desktop based), highlighting the desire to move to a modern technology platform while retaining desktop functionality. These insights provide valuable information for organizations considering the migration or modernization of their VFP applications
